Welcome to hniw.us, my latest effort in sharing a small portion of my life with the world at large. The name, hniw, comes from the chemical compound 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane with a formula C6H6N12O12. It is a nitroamine explosive that produces about 20% more energy than HMX, another nitroamine explosive. Both are used as propellants, with HMX also finding use in polymer-bonded explosives used as detonators.
So why all the explosives? It isn’t because I am some nut wanting to blow up the world. It is more of a homage as to what got me into my current field of study, chemistry. I don’t work with explosives, as it generally involves organic synthesis and can be a bit dangerous, but I still enjoy reading about them from time to time. For more about me, you’ll have to check out my editors profile…once I get around to putting it up.
